Date: 7.13.18 - Castlewood Canyon State Park Location: 2989 S. State Hwy 83, Franktown, CO 80116 $ to enter: Take: Water & Walking Stick, Picnic Lunch Castlewood Canyon State Park has a well defined parking area, and the beginning of the trail was a solid concrete path; however, it quickly turned rugged, but very well maintained. The park provided a couple of shelters, although they were reserved, a play ground with climbing equipment for the children, not to mention, bathroom facilities. The path leading to the bottom of the canyon was a mixture of well maintained man made steps, natural stepping stones and earthen paths interspersed with planked bridges to cross the streams at the base of the canyon. I was very grateful for the walking stick I carried along, although I did not see "snakes" of any kind-this is their habitat, so be aware of that. Even with the very hot days that we have experienced recently, the grasses were still very green and even "lush" in some places, with views of the surrounding meadows that were just spectacular - see the collage of photo's below. Both the decent and ascent from the canyon floor were an easy trek for those who are steady on their feet and do not require the aid of a walking device. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the beauty that Colorado has to offer, so close to home.
